Vero Beach, FL – Beaver falls to Trinity International in a tough double header.

To open the first game of the doubleheader, Beaver found themselves down 7-0 after two innings as the Trojans came out swinging.  The Lions would finally put a run on the board in the fourth inning as Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) reached on an error allowing Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) to score. Unfortunately this would be the only run Beaver could generate in the game as Trinity went on to win by a final score of 10-1.

The Lions were led by Thellman who went 2 for 3 in the game including a double.  On the mound was Colin Macon (Freedom, PA / Freedom) who threw two innings and Andrew Emes (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) in relief who threw the remaining four innings.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Lions were ready for redemption.  After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Lions rallied to put two runs of their own on the board in the bottom of the second on  RBI hits from Duncan Miklos (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) and Thellman scoring Matt Capo (Moon Township, PA / Moon) and Miklos.  The teams continued to battle from the mound and in the fourth inning Trinity added an additional two runs to take a 5-2 lead through four and a half.  The Beaver bats came alive again in the bottom of the inning setting up Stephen Antolic (Freedom, PA / Freedom) for a 2 RBI single scoring Debo and Thellman to bring Beaver within one (5-4).  The fifth inning was even more action packed as Trinity quickly answered in their at bat with 2 runs to increase their lead to 7-4.  The Lions refused to go away quietly as the first five batters in the inning for Beaver reached base safely including another RBI single for Miklos.  A ground out by Thellman would allow Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA / Moon) to score to bring the game back within one, 7-6.  With Debo at the plate, 2 outs in the inning and runners on second and third, a passed ball allowed the quick footed Miklos to score in a tight play to tie the game at seven.

Despite the huge inning from Beaver, Trinity would go on to score an additional run in the 6th and two more in the 7th to hang on to the win as Beaver fell 10-7 in a heartbreaker.

Seven of the Lion batters would record at least one hit in the game including Thellmen who went 3 for 5 and Capo who went an impressive 4 for 4.  Senior, Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA / Seneca Valley) threw a solid five innings before Daniel Vanderslice (Sharon, PA / Sharon) would come in in relief.

Beaver returns to action tomorrow for a JV game against Hagerstown Community College at 1:00 p.m. followed by a varsity game at 4:00 p.m. against Miami Hamilton.
