Vero Beach, FL -- Beaver drops a pair of games to Bethel College in day two of spring training.

In game one, Beaver gave up an early two runs in the top of the first off of a home run and another two in the third.  The pitching and defense struggled to slow down the bats of Bethel and through five and a half innings Beaver found themselves down 7-0.  Depite four batters having hits in the game, Beaver wasn't able to string together those hits and fell by a final score of 9-0.  Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton), Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside), Matt Capo (Moon Township, PA / Moon) and Zach Ulrich (Seabrook, Texas / Clearfalls) all had hits in the game.

In game two of the double header, Beaver gave up 5 runs in the first two innings, but showed some grit in the top of the third as Ryan Onderko (Johnstown, PA / Richland) hit a one out single and his pinch runner, Scott Hughes (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley), advanced to third on a Ty Cole (Carmichaels, PA / Carmichaels) double.  With runners on second and third, Debo singled to score Hughes, getting Beaver on the board.  Bethel responded with an eight run at bat in the bottom of the inning, expanding their lead to 13-1.  But again, the Lions rallied and scored three runs in the fourth as Onderko and Cole earned RBI's and Capo was able to score on a passed ball to narrow the score to 13-4.  Unfortunately, Beaver's struggles from the mound continued and they gave up an additional seven runs in the bottom of the inning, making the score 20-4 which would end up as the final in the seventh inning.

Leading the offense in game two were Cole, Justyn Francona (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) and McCarty who each had two hits in the game.

The Lions will return to action tomorrow night at Holman Stadium in Historic Dodgertown when they face Olivet Nazerene University at 7:00 p.m.
