Fayette, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver basketball team took to the road for one of their last games this season, facing off against a tough Penn State Fayette team. Beaver came into this game having lost their last three games, while also falling far out of contention for a spot in the PSUAC playoffs.
Beaver started this game off playing very poorly, allowing Fayette to score at will for about the first ten minutes of play. Fayette was able to use this to build a double digit lead early as Beaver struggled to get their game going offensively, shooting only 36% in the first half. With nearly five minutes left to play in the first, Beaver was able to catch up to Fayette and close their lead to only 3 points with 3 minutes left. Because of their late half run, Beaver seemed to be right back in this game, going into halftime down by a score of 40-47.
Fayette started this second half out just as the did the first, by jumping ahead quick without looking back. Beaver seemed unable to stop Fayette during the second half, going down by double digits early and never fighting their way back as they had been able to do at the end of the first. In fact, the team was outscored by Fayette 51-31 in this half, as Beaver only managed to shoot 35% from the field. When it was all said and done in this one, Beaver ended up going home with their fourth loss in a row by a final score of 98-71.
With their loss against Fayette, Beaver now sits at 9-14 overall with a 5-9 in conference record. With their loss tonight, the team will not be making the PSUAC playoffs this year without something extreme happening to shake up the standings. Beaver was led in this game by the efforts of Senior Luis Rodriguez (San Diego, CA / Calvary Christian Academy) who scored 10 points while hauling in 3 rebounds. The team will play next on Tuesday, February 7, at Penn State New Kensington. Game time is set for 7 pm.
