Monaca, PA -- Beaver takes two PSUAC wins against Penn State Fayette.

After dealing with a stretch of bad weather, the Lady Lions returned to action today against Penn State Fayette.  In game one of the double header, Beaver took an early 1-0 lead off of a Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) RBI single, scoring Sunnie Liggett (Avella, PA / Avella) who walked earlier in the inning.  It was the second and third innings where Beaver did their damage.

In the second inning they hit through the order as four players were walked, one was hit by a pitch, three players had singles and the action was capped off by a Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) double as the inning resulted in eight runs for the Lady Lions.  With a 9-0 lead, the Beaver bats stayed hot in the third as they put up an additional nine runs on six hits including doubles from Foose and Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish), both resulting in RBI's as well as a triple from junior, Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) earning her 2 RBI's on the hit.

With the mercy rule taking effect, the Lady Lions cruised to victory by a final score of 18-0.  On the mound was Jackson who threw all three innings givng up just three hits, zero earned runs and striking out three of the twelve batters faced.

Game two got off to a different start as Fayette answered Beaver's 3-run second inning with 5 runs of their own stunning Beaver for the moment.  However, in the third inning, just as they had in the first game, the bats came alive and the Lady Lions put up an 8-run third inning to take an 11-5 lead midway through the inning.  In the fourth, Beaver continued to apply pressure to Fayette.  After a Jackson single resulting in 2 RBI's, Foose again crushed a double to earn herself two more RBI's on the day and helped Beaver score four more runs in the game, taking a 15-5 lead.  In the final inning of the game, Beaver tacked on another two runs to secure the 17-5 victory.

Leading the offense was Foose who went 3-4 with 3 RBI's, Jackson who went 2 for 2 with 5 RBIs and Sunnie Liggett who went 2 for 3.  In the circle was Foose who threw all five innings giving up nine hits and five runs, but struck out four.

Beaver returns to action tomorrow as the play host to county rival, CCBC for a 3:00 p.m. double header.
