Drifton, PA -- Beaver defeats Hazleton, 6-1, to advance into the PSUAC Championship.

In the semi-final game of the PSUAC Tournament, Beaver drew Hazleton for the second time in two days.  After losing a heartbreaker in Saturday's game and splitting during the regular season, the Lady Lions were looking to prove they could handle the #2 seed.

After two scoreless innings, Beaver opened up the scoring in the top of the third as Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) hit a 2 RBI single to right center field, scoring Searra Thumm (Beaver Falls, PA / Beaver Falls) and Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA / Shenango).  Beaver kept the offense running in the top of the fourth inning as they loaded the bases and with 2 outs scored another run on a Petrucci single down the right field line, giving Beaver a 3-0 lead.

With the score still in Beaver's favor, 3-0, they got the bats going again in the top of the sixth inning.  They were led off by freshman, Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech) who doubled to center field.  She was followed by Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) who singled to put to put runners on the corners.  The third batter in the inning, Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) earned herself an RBI on a single to left center.  After stealing second, Jackson and Charlier found themselves in scoring position with Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) at the plate.  Cepull doubled, earning herself an RBI.  Adding two more runs, Beaver forced Hazleton to making a pitching change after building a comfortable 5-0 lead.  But that didn't slow down the Lady Lions as they tacked on one more run before Hazleton could get their final out of the inning.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 6-0 lead, the ladies knew they just needed to hang on to advance which they did, only giving up one run in the inning.

With the 6-1 victory, Beaver earns themselves a spot in the PSUAC Championship game slated to start at approximatley 1:30 p.m. against #1 seeded Brandywine.
