New Kensington, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver softball team traveled to Penn State New Kensington looking for revenge after losing both games of a doubleheader to them the day before. New Kensington gave Beaver their hardest challange in conference play this season in their last meeting, and Beaver will be looking to bounce back with a win today.
In game one Beaver jumped out to a lead right off the bat, as Beaver jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. the team was able to score seemingly at will in this game, and adding on runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. As Beaver came into the fifth inning, they lead 5-1. Beaver finally ended the game in the fifth inning, as they added on 5 runs to win by a score of 10-1. Beaver was led in the game by Sophomore Dina Cable, who went 2-3 with 3 RBIs.
Game two of the of the day Beaver once again came out to an early lead. In the first inning Beaver jumped out to a 4 run lead as their bats were really working in this game again. New Kensington threatened to come back in the fourth and fifth innings, as they scored three runs to make it a 5-3 game going into the sixth. In the top of the seventh inning Beaver sealed the win for themselves, as they rallied for a 6 run inning to end up winning 11-3 to secure the sweep in New Kensington.
After sweeping New Kensington on the road, Beaver now sits at 13-12 overall on the season while now sitting at 11-3 in conference play. Beaver got their payback today, as they bounced back well after losing both games against New Kensington a day before. The team will take the field next on Monday, April 17, at home against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Game one start is set for 2 p.m.
