The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team took on the ladies of Penn State Du Bois in a tough conference matchup early this season. Beaver comes into the game on an impressive four game winning streak, in which the team has had struggles but has continually played well when it counted. This game should be a good test for Beaver to see if they have what it takes to play a good, consistent game, to take home a win.
Beaver had control of this game early, as the team jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first five minutes of play. However, the girls could not maintain this lead as halfway through the first Du Bois rallied back, bringing the score to 18-11 by the end of the first quarter. As play resumed in the second quarter, Du Bois continued rallying, inching their way back into the game point by point. Finally, with three minutes left to play before half, Du Bois took the lead from Beaver and didn't look back. Du Bois took the lead into the half by a score of 33-29.
The second half showed a much stronger performance out of Beaver, as the girls really pulled their game together starting in the third. While Du Bois continued to score at will at the start of the third quarter, Beaver had quietly began to answer back. With three minutes left to play in the third, Beaver took the lead right back from Du Bois as really began to start firing on all cylinders as Du Bois began to get sloppy. With a 51-45 score at the start of the fourth quarter, Beaver really pushed hard to keep extending their lead. With five minutes left in the game, Beaver had widened their lead to 60-49 and the team was able to settle down and secure their win. When it was all said and done, Beaver won this one by a final score of 71-58.
With their hard fought win against Du Bois, Beaver secured their fifth consecutive win to boost their record to 6-2 overall. With their undefeated, 4-0 record in conference play, the girls sit at the top of the PSUAC standings to start off this season. Beaver was lead in this game by the efforts of Senior Asia Borders (Ellwood City, Pa / Lincoln) who scored a team high 19 points in this game, also hauling in 6 rebounds. With Borders' 19 points in this game she is now 1 point away from scoring 1,000 points in her Beaver career. The team will play next on Wednesday, December 7, on the road against Davis and Elkins. Game time is set for 6 pm.
