Bio

Coach Fontes joins Bertges for her second season as assistant coach of the volleyball program.  After a disappointing 2012 season, Fontes looks to aid Bertges in making a playoff push in 2013.

Originally from Brazil, she completed her studies at UTEP in Texas where she earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in psychology and a bachelor’s degree in communications.  She works full-time at Penn State Beaver as an Assistant Psychology professor where she delivers psychology courses that include learning and cognition.  She is also working on research while she is here with the  primary research areas including psycholinguistics and cognition.

Prior to attending UTEP, she played club volleyball in Brazil from 1993-2000 which lead to her being recuited to play at the Division I level.  As her playing career ended, she quickly transitioned to life as a coach.  Fontes coached a club team in El Paso, Texas from 2004-2010.  Because of these experiences she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about both playing and coaching volleyball.
