Early Deficit Too Much as Beaver Falls to Schuylkill
Beaver put together a strong night at the plate with 10 hits and multiple comeback attempts, but a big third inning proved to be the difference in a 12–8 loss.
Myrtle Beach, SC - Beaver fell 12–8 to Penn State Schuylkill in a game that swung hard in the middle innings and featured plenty of traffic on the bases. Beaver piled up 10 hits and kept chipping away after an early deficit, but a decisive Schuylkill third inning created too large a gap to fully erase.
Schuylkill struck first with two runs in the opening frame, then broke the game open in the third with a big rally capped by a grand slam to push the lead to 9–0. Beaver answered in the bottom of the third with three runs to get on the board and continued to close the margin in the fifth, trimming it to 9–5 with two more. Schuylkill added two in the seventh to extend the cushion, and Beaver made one last push in the bottom half of the inning—highlighted by extra-base damage—to pull within four, but the comeback stalled before the final out.
For Penn State Beaver, the offense was led by Mason Hsu, who went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and also reached via a walk while scoring three times. Christopher Cann matched him with a 3-for-4 night that included two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored, consistently setting the table near the top of the order. Benjamin Ogle delivered the biggest swing for Beaver, going 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs (plus a sacrifice fly RBI), while Philip Betz added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI single; Rome Requena chipped in with a hit and a run scored as Beaver's lineup produced throughout the middle and late innings.
In the end, Beaver's steady scoring and 10-hit night weren't enough to overcome the early avalanche and the two-run seventh that restored breathing room for Schuylkill. The late surge showed Beaver's ability to generate extra-base offense and pressure opponents, but the early hole proved costly. Beaver will look to carry the bats forward while tightening up the run prevention to turn these rallies into wins.
The team currently has a 1-6 record in the early season but still is 0-0 in conference.
