Beaver Swept in Doubleheader Losses
Penn State Beaver struggled on both sides of the ball, falling 14–1 and 9–0 in a pair of conference losses at Beaver Field House on April 24.
Penn State Beaver dropped a 14–1 decision at Beaver Field House on April 24, 2026, falling to 8–24 overall and 6–10 in conference play. The game turned quickly and never evened out, as Beaver fell behind in the first inning and struggled to respond through the middle frames. The deficit continued to grow with multi-run innings in the third, fourth, and fifth, and despite a handful of scattered hits, Beaver was unable to generate sustained offense or produce a momentum-shifting inning.
Beaver was held scoreless through the first four innings while the visitors steadily built their lead. The opening run came on an aggressive baserunning play—a steal of home—to make it 1–0. The third inning then opened things up, as four runs pushed the margin to 5–0. The decisive stretch came in the fourth, when Beaver surrendered five runs to fall behind 10–0, followed by another four-run inning in the fifth that extended the deficit to 14–0. Beaver finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Benjamin Ogle drove in Jameson Stubbs with an RBI single, but the Lions were unable to build on that momentum, and the game concluded with Beaver trailing 14–1.
From Beaver's perspective, the lone run came on Ogle's RBI single, and the offense finished with six hits but no walks, limiting opportunities to string together rallies. On the mound, Justin Perera worked 3.2 innings before Nicholas Hayes followed with 1.1 innings, as Beaver allowed 14 runs (13 earned), issued three walks, and recorded three strikeouts. Defensively, the team committed one error. Moving forward, the Lions will look to regroup quickly, focus on limiting early runs, and convert base hits into more productive innings.
Later that day, Penn State Beaver (8–25, 6–11) was held scoreless in a seven-inning 9–0 loss at Beaver Field House. The visitors struck first in the second inning with an RBI double, then extended their lead in the third with another run-scoring double and a two-run home run to make it 4–0. The fourth inning added a run on a sacrifice groundout, while the fifth brought two more runs via an RBI walk and an RBI groundout, pushing the deficit to 7–0. In the sixth, Beaver allowed two additional runs—one on an RBI double and another unearned run following a stolen base—before a quiet seventh inning sealed the 9–0 final.
Beaver managed just three hits and one walk while striking out seven times, preventing any sustained offensive threat. Mason Hsu and Benjamin Ogle each recorded a hit, with Rheece Barone adding the third, but Beaver was unable to advance runners into scoring position in a meaningful way. Defensively, three errors by Jameson Stubbs, Daniel Goff, and Rheece Barone created extra opportunities for the opposition, contributing to one unearned run. On the mound, Kairu Fujinuma pitched six innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out three. Ian Butler added a scoreless seventh inning, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
The result marked a difficult stretch for Beaver, bringing the team to 8–26 overall and 6–12 in conference play. Offensively, the Lions were unable to adjust to opposing pitching, and the combination of limited baserunners, strikeouts, and defensive miscues made it challenging to halt the game's momentum once it shifted in the middle innings. With the postseason approaching, Beaver will need to sharpen execution on routine plays and create earlier opportunities on the bases to rebound from the shutout loss.
The team will take the field on Sunday, April 26th at 1pm and 3pm away at Penn State Du Bois. For all things Penn State Beaver Baseball check out beaverathletics.com!
