Crossover Trip Does Not Fair Well for Men's Basketball, Dropping Game to Mont Alto
Taking on Penn State Mont Alto, the Men's Basketball team cannot secure a win dropping the game 89-76.
Mont Alto, PA - Penn State Beaver dropped an 89–76 decision at Penn State Mont Alto, in a game where the Lions' offense was efficient but ultimately couldn't overcome the difference in possessions and interior control. Beaver shot 50.9% from the field and knocked down 9-of-16 from three (56.3%), but Mont Alto's ability to generate extra chances and get to the glass created too large a gap to close late.
The first half set the tone. Beaver stayed within striking distance behind balanced scoring and strong perimeter shooting, but went into the break down 44–38. While Beaver's shot-making kept the game competitive, the flow tilted toward Mont Alto as Beaver struggled to finish defensive possessions cleanly and limit second opportunities, leaving them chasing the game rather than dictating it.
In the second half, Beaver matched Mont Alto point-for-point (38–45) but never found the sustained run needed to flip the script. Beaver's offense continued to produce—especially from the arc—but turnovers and missed free throws (13-of-20) made it difficult to cut deeply into the margin. The Lions showed fight and efficiency, yet the overall margin held as Mont Alto maintained control through the final minutes.
Individually for Beaver, Ny'zir Dix led the way with 19 points on an ultra-efficient 9-of-13 shooting, adding 2 assists and 3 steals. Ronyell Coston posted 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, hit a three, and went 5-of-6 at the line while adding 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Trevor Franklin added 14 points with three made threes (3-of-4) and contributed 2 blocks, while Jermaine Knaff scored 9 points on three triples and filled the stat sheet with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Allen Cole also scored 9, hitting two threes and adding 2 steals. Off the bench, Jiyhad Bobbitt provided 4 points and 3 assists, Xavier Ryan chipped in 3, and Joe Pinto added 2 points with 5 rebounds.
The loss moves Penn State Beaver to 3–9 overall and 1–4 in conference play. Despite the setback, the Lions can take positives from their shooting efficiency and perimeter production, with the next step being turning that accuracy into wins by tightening up ball security and finishing possessions on the defensive end. The team will look to begin improving their record over the weekend when they play in the Penn State Beaver Holiday Tournament. They will take the court on Friday, December 19th at 8pm when they take on Christendom College in the Beaver Fieldhouse!
