Penn State Beaver Holds Off Schuylkill, 75–71
Penn State Beaver leaned on a fast start and late-game poise to protect its home floor, holding off Penn State Schuylkill for a 75–71 men’s basketball victory Friday night at the Beaver Fieldhouse.
Monaca, Pa. — Penn State Beaver defended its home court at the Beaver Fieldhouse on Jan. 16, edging Penn State Schuylkill 75–71. Beaver set the tone early, building a 41–33 halftime lead behind efficient interior scoring and second-chance opportunities on the glass. Schuylkill responded with a strong push after the break, outscoring Beaver 38–34 in the second half and tightening the contest down the stretch. Still, Beaver's first-half cushion and timely defensive stops in the closing minutes proved enough to secure the victory.
Beaver's stat line showed a balanced, physical effort. The Lions shot 31-of-58 from the field (53.4%) and won the rebounding battle 37–34, including 12 offensive boards that helped offset 15 turnovers. Ny'zir Dix powered the attack with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, adding a dominant 14 rebounds plus four steals and two blocks. Jabari Gayle provided a steady second scoring option with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Jermaine Knaff chipped in nine and Xavier Ryan added seven off the bench. Beaver also got useful reserve minutes on the glass and defensively, helping them survive a second-half push.
In the end, Beaver's ability to build an early lead, score efficiently, and control key rebounding moments proved decisive in a four-point finish. Even as the game tightened after halftime, Dix's two-way presence and Gayle's finishing kept Beaver from giving away the advantage. The result was a composed home win built on strong first-half execution and just enough late-game resilience to close it out.
