Assistant Coach Bill Mahan is entering his 11th year at PSU Beaver serving as an assistant for both the Men’s and Women’s programs.  Currently beginning his 5th season with the Women’s program Coach focuses on team defense, skill development and recruiting.

Mahan has over 30 years coaching experience at the High School, Junior College and College levels.  In addition to his coaching positions, Coach was an instructor at the Dave Devenzio National Point Guard Camp that was one of the predecessors of the current highly accredited Point Guard College.

Throughout the years Mahan has coached numerous men’s and women’s D1 and D2 athletes including former PSU and NFL receiver Derek Moye.  Additionally, athletes that played at Eastern Michigan, Robert Morris, Sheppard, Kent State, West Liberty and Palm Beach Atlantic played or trained under Coach Mahan.

Current Men’s Coach Williams and assistant Coach Rea both played for Coach Mahan at New Brighton High School where they played in the WPIAL championship and were ranked as high as #5 in the state. During his tenure at New Brighton Mahan was named Conference Coach of the Year twice. Coach Williams noted that “Coach Mahan has been one of the most influential basketball minds during my playing and coaching career. He’s great!  He understands the game, and most importantly. He’s a great teacher."

When asked about his coaching career Mahan stated, “One of the things that I am most proud of is that over 15 former players have gone on to coach at the high school or college level and many used or are using the same fundamentals that I emphasize”.

Mahan is a graduate of Kent State University, retired from First Energy and currently conducts skill development sessions for local athletes.  Bill and his wife Suze live in New Brighton, PA.
