Unionville, PA -- Lady Lions drop season opener to St. Catherine's.
Taking the field for the first time this season, Coach Schetka was optimistic that his new squad would be ready to compete and compete they did. For the first 40 minutes of the game, the ladies played solid defense as neither team allowed a goal. In wasn't until 41:45 that St. Catherine's was able to net a goal and take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, St. Catherine's scored their second goal, but with a 2-0 deficit the Lady Lions refused to quit and netted their first goal of the season off of the toe of junior, Jessica Spina (Jefferson Hills, PA / Thomas Jefferson). However, that spark wasn't enough to swing the momentum as the Lady Lions would eventually fall by a final score of 3-1.
In goal was freshman, Brittany Zahn (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) who faced 15 shots, making 12 saves.
Beaver returns to action on September 9th when they take on non-conference Mercyhurst Northeast.
