Late Rally Falls Just Short as Beaver Drops 10–7 Battle
After being held quiet most of the game, Penn State Beaver erupted for six runs in the final inning, bringing the tying run to the plate before falling 10–7 in Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach, SC - Beaver dropped a 10–7 decision, but nearly flipped the game with a furious rally in the seventh inning. The Lions were held to one run through six, then erupted for six in the final frame to bring the tying run to the plate before the comeback fell short. Beaver finished with eight hits and five walks, but two defensive errors and a handful of unearned runs proved costly in the early innings.
The game's shape was defined by a slow build offensively and a late surge. Beaver's lone run before the seventh came in the second inning when Jameson Stubbs scored on a passed ball. On the mound, the Lions used seven pitchers across six innings: Justin Perera worked the first, followed by Dylan Green (charged with three runs without recording an out), then scoreless stints from Breyden Black and Andres Molinar. Matthew Helmer Jr. and Andrew Kristiansen combined to limit damage in the middle innings, before Rheece Barone took the loss in the sixth as the deficit grew heading into the final at-bat.
Individually, Beaver's seventh-inning push was sparked by Mason Hsu, who went 1-for-3 with a walk and delivered the biggest swing of the day—a three-run triple. Nicholas Campbell added a key RBI single (1-for-3, BB), and Omar DeGracia drove in two with a single (1-for-4, 2 RBI). Stubbs was a catalyst all game, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and scoring twice, while Luke Burkhart (1-for-2, BB) and Rheece Barone (1-for-3) also crossed the plate. Despite the late fireworks, Beaver couldn't fully erase the early hole, but the six-run seventh showed the lineup's ability to pressure opponents until the final out.
Penn State Beaver will look to carry the momentum from its late offensive surge into its next matchup, as the Lions showed their ability to rally and apply pressure even in the final inning. With the lineup breaking through late, Beaver will aim to put together a more complete performance in its upcoming game. Beaver will take the field again on Saturday, March 21st at 12 & 2pm when they travel to take on Kent State Tuscarawas in a non-conference match up.
