Lady Lions win First Game of Season against Penn State Hazleton 2-1
Taking on conference foe, Penn State Hazleton the Lady Lions brought the spirit and brought home their first win.
Monaca, PA - Today the Lady Lions Soccer team secured their first win of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Penn State Hazleton. The match was a showcase of determination and skill, with both teams battling fiercely for dominance.
Beaver came out strong, with Andrea Chargoy opening the scoring in the 25th minute with an unassisted goal that set the tone for the home team. Chargoy's performance was nothing short of spectacular, as she not only scored but also assisted the game-winning goal, showcasing her pivotal role in the team's success. Despite the early setback, Penn State Hazleton responded with resilience, scoring in the 40th minute. The second half saw Penn State Beaver intensify their efforts, with Mehrail Aziz scoring the decisive goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Chargoy. Aziz's goal was a testament to Beaver's relentless attacking strategy, as they dominated the shot count with 30 attempts, 19 of which were on target. Goalkeeper, Gracie Turyan, played a crucial role in maintaining the lead, making six saves and demonstrating exceptional composure under pressure.
The match was a testament to Beaver's determination and teamwork, as they celebrated their first victory of the season. With standout performances from Chargoy and Aziz, Beaver fans have much to look forward to as the season progresses.
Looking forward, the team will take the field again next Saturday, Spetember, 20th at 1:00pm when they travel to take on Penn State Mont Alto.
